'AHA' Homeless Theatre
The founding of the Company was preceeded by a Christmas celebration in 2001. That time the workers of the institution thought that they would host a festive programme for the residents of the homeless hostel.
History
The programme was complied from poems, and this idea led to the concept of creating a theatre company with members of homeless people.
The plan seemed to be suitable to carry out as one of the colleagues, Mr. Sándor Füsti Molnár, had a past of an amateur actor and director. The idea met a positive reaction from the management of the hostel. They gave their financial support and provided the necessities.
The real work and the recruitment of performers started in January, 2002. It was announced that registration was open to anyone who wishes to participate in the production. Those volunteers who applied were the residents of the Night Shelter, the Temporary Hostel and the Rehabilitation Institute.
Our company started to become more popular, and as a result, was invited to different festivals all around Hungary. AHA Drama Company was awarded on these events by the jury and won gold, silver and bronze classifications. In the past few years our company has been invited to foreign festivals as well.
Objectives
Our goal is to keep moving in the same direction, to make known the possibilities of art-therapy to many more homeless people.
We would like to participate at local and international competitions so that our homeless friends would have a chance to show and share their talents and ambitions.
According to our local and international experiences, we can say with confidence that theatrical art has a postive effect on the participants. Their self-respect becomes much more stronger, their problem-solving ability improves, their connection with the outside world changes, as well as the way society judges them.
